A new Sioux Falls facility will house the internal medicine practice and the genetics practices of the medical geneticists. In addition, offices for the genetic counselors and clinical genetics laboratory directors will be located in the facility. Cubicles for medical students, residents, fellows and genetic counseling students will be provided, as will an adequate number of conference rooms and a teaching auditorium.

The facility will position internal medicine as a sophisticated point of entry into the Sanford system. By placing a single-point registration and waiting area adjacent to the main entrance, and positioning every exam room on the first floor, the layout will support convenient access for the adults who arrive for care.

The Sanford Clinical Genetics Diagnostic Laboratories as well as imaging services will be located in the lower level of the facility. Physician, laboratory director, genetic counselor, bioethics and bioinformatics offices will be placed together on the facility’s second floor with adjoining consultative space. The third floor will house an office for the genetic counseling graduate program director, the teaching auditorium, conference rooms, and cubicles for trainees.

To accommodate implementation of this new program throughout the enterprise, additional facilities will be planned and developed to bring together internal medicine physicians, genetic counselors, medical geneticists and others in the area.
